About Turtle Island Park (Information provided by SABAH PARKS) Turtle Island Park is located in the Sulu Sea, 40 kilometers north of Sandakan. There are three small islands in the Sulu Sea, and Xilingan is the main tourist attraction. It's a safe haven for endangered green sea turtles and hawksbill turtles, all of which come ashore every night to lay their eggs. All three islands have incubation and conservation areas. Here you can get inquiries about sea turtle protection activities, watch sea turtles land and lay eggs, observe the process of egg collection, make records for turtle mothers and release baby turtles back to the sea. Turtle watching is not the only attraction here, there are also turquoise seascapes and beautiful reefs that are great for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving. If it is the fruit tree season, travelers can also try the unique island flying fox rope net activity there. In 1977, the three islands were designated as marine parks through the constitution; today, employees live on these three islands to protect the marine parks and perform work tasks. About Selingan The area of Selingan Island is about 8 hectares, which is the second largest among the three islands and the first sea turtle hatchery in Malaysia. Many turtle mothers come back to this island to lay eggs, all of which can be watched by tourists every day. In order to protect sea turtles, only 38 tourists are allowed to stay on the island every night. Xilingan Island has a tourist interpretation center, a turtle hatchery, basic tourist accommodation, and the headquarters of the Ocean Park is also established here. Best time for sightseeing March to July is the calmest and driest period on the sea. Peak season for sea turtles to come ashore to lay their eggs is from July to October. The sea conditions from October to February will be a little unstable, but travelers can still visit West Lingan Island from all over the world to experience this unforgettable experience.
